Venomancer is a Universal hero who covers the map in poison: Plague Wards, slowing gales and a plague ultimate that spreads between enemies.
Venomancer is a ranged Universal hero. Our recommended role is position 4 support, with offlane as an alternative.
Venomancer wins through damage over time. Venomous Gale slows and poisons in a line, Snakebite adds poison on attack, Plague Wards give vision, push and chip damage anywhere on the map, and Noxious Plague damages and slows a target and spreads to heroes around it. Pick Venomancer against lineups that rely on healing or on standing still in lane. He is slow and fragile, so burst heroes and gap closers punish him.
Place Plague Wards behind the enemy creeps so they chip the heroes and block pulls, and harass with Snakebite attacks every time the carry comes for a last hit. Venomous Gale on both enemies forces them to retreat or lose health slowly. Keep wards up constantly; they are free vision and lane control.
Stay behind your team and cast Noxious Plague on the hero in the middle of the enemy group so the plague spreads. Gale the enemies who try to escape and drop wards around the fight for extra damage and vision. Venomancer should never be the first target, so keep distance and let the poison work.
Boots, Magic Wand and wards cover the lane. Aether Lens or Spirit Vessel are the usual early cores depending on whether range or heal reduction matters more. Force Staff and Glimmer Cape keep him alive, Aghanim's Scepter adds Poison Nova for team fights, and Shiva's Guard, Scythe of Vyse or Eul's finish the build.

Plague Wards last a long time and give vision wherever they stand. Place them at pull camps to block the enemy support, on paths to spot rotations and on towers to push without creeps. In fights, scatter them so enemies take poison from every direction.

Noxious Plague damages and slows the target and spreads to nearby enemy heroes when they come close or the target dies. Cast it on the hero in the middle of the enemy team so the spread reaches the others, and on the enemy carry when they fight next to their supports.

Venomous Gale deals damage in ticks over a long time and slows heavily at first. Cast it along the path enemies use to retreat so several heroes carry the poison, and combine it with Spirit Vessel to stop heroes who rely on regeneration from recovering.
| Detail | What it means in your game |
|---|---|
| Venomous Gale | Fires a poison wave that slows and deals damage over time to enemies in a line. |
| Snakebite | Attacks apply a poison that deals damage over time. |
| Plague Ward | Summons a ward that attacks nearby enemies with poison and gives vision. |
| Noxious Plague | Infects a hero with a plague that damages, slows and spreads to nearby enemy heroes. |
Venomancer is most often a position 4 support who dominates lanes with Plague Wards and Snakebite and later spreads Noxious Plague in fights. He can also play offlane as a lane bully who pushes with wards. In both roles his job is map control through wards and constant poison damage.
Start with regen, wards and Magic Stick, then Boots and Magic Wand. Spirit Vessel or Aether Lens are the common early cores, followed by Force Staff or Glimmer Cape for safety. Aghanim's Scepter adds Poison Nova, and Shiva's Guard, Scythe of Vyse, Eul's Scepter or Pipe finish the build depending on the game.
Yes. Venomancer is a simple support: his wards are easy to place, Gale is a straight line and Noxious Plague is a targeted spell. Beginners should learn to keep wards up at all times, to stay far behind the team in fights and to cast the plague on the hero in the middle of the enemy group.
Noxious Plague infects one hero with a plague that damages, slows and spreads to nearby enemy heroes. Cast it on a hero surrounded by teammates so the spread hits several targets, or on the enemy carry when they stand next to their supports. Aghanim's Scepter adds Poison Nova for a wide area version in team fights.
