Why pick Lifestealer?
Pick Lifestealer against magic-heavy lineups and tanky heroes, and when your team has an initiator to infest.

Rage through the stuns, feast on the tank and ride your initiator into the fight.
Lifestealer is a Strength carry who becomes immune to spells with Rage, heals with every attack and hides inside allies with Infest.
Pick Lifestealer against magic-heavy lineups and tanky heroes, and when your team has an initiator to infest.
Avoid him against high armor, evasion and physical control that works through Rage, such as Phantom Assassin or Axe.
Do not use Rage the moment a fight starts. Wait for the stun you need to walk through.

Our picks, based on how the spells work together.

Infesting Centaur brings Lifestealer into the fight after Hoof Stomp lands.

Hex and Earth Spike hold targets so Feast heals through the fight.

Shallow Grave and healing let Lifestealer stay on his target forever.

Bloodlust attack speed and Fireblast stuns make Feast heal more often.

Storm Hammer sets up targets and Warcry armor protects Lifestealer from physical damage.

Evasion blocks Feast healing and critical strikes out-damage his sustain.

Berserker's Call works through Rage and Culling Blade finishes him at low health.

Windrun evades his attacks and Shackleshot holds him for Focus Fire.

Duel works through Rage and Press the Attack out-sustains Feast with items.

Sniper attacks from outside his reach and Headshot slows him before he arrives.

Lifestealer is a Strength carry who becomes immune to spells with Rage, heals with every attack and hides inside allies with Infest.
Lifestealer is a melee Strength hero. Our recommended role is position 1 carry.
Lifestealer wins fights by ignoring them. Rage gives him debuff immunity and magic resistance, Feast heals him for a share of the target's health on every attack, Open Wounds slows a target and lets allies heal from it, and Infest hides him inside an ally or creep until he bursts out. Pick Lifestealer against magic-heavy lineups and tanky heroes. He struggles against armor, evasion and physical control that works through Rage.
Last-hit with attacks and use Feast to recover health from creeps when the lane is hard. Rage lets you walk through a stun or a slow to secure a kill or escape, so save it rather than using it on cooldown. Open Wounds on an enemy who overextends sets up a kill with your support.
Enter fights with Rage active and attack the hero with the most health, where Feast heals the most. Open Wounds the target so it cannot leave and your team can heal from attacking it. Infest an initiating ally to arrive in the middle of the enemy team, or a creep to escape when the fight is lost.
Power Treads, Magic Wand and Bracer carry the lane. Armlet of Mordiggian is the usual first core because its strength and damage scale Feast, followed by Desolator or Sange and Yasha. Skull Basher, Assault Cuirass, Abyssal Blade and Monkey King Bar finish the build; Radiance suits games where Infest escapes keep you safe.

Rage makes you immune to most spells and strongly resistant to magic damage, but physical attacks and some abilities still hurt. Use it to walk through disables and burst, not as a reason to fight five heroes. Its duration is short, so time it for the stuns you expect.

Feast heals and damages for a percentage of the target's current health, so attacking a tanky hero heals far more than attacking a support. In fights, hit the biggest health pool you can reach, especially while Rage keeps you safe.

Infest makes Lifestealer invulnerable inside the host and heals him over time. Infest an initiator like Centaur or Spirit Breaker to arrive instantly, or infest a creep to walk away from a lost fight. Bursting out damages nearby enemies and gives a short speed bonus.
| Detail | What it means in your game |
|---|---|
| Rage | Grants debuff immunity, high magic resistance and movement speed for a few seconds. |
| Open Wounds | Slows an enemy and lets Lifestealer and allies heal from damage dealt to it. |
| Feast | Passive. Attacks deal bonus damage and heal Lifestealer based on the target's health. |
| Infest | Lifestealer hides inside an ally or creep, healing over time, then bursts out to damage nearby enemies. |
Lifestealer is a position 1 carry who farms the safe lane and starts fighting as soon as he has Power Treads and Armlet. He fights best in the mid game against tanky and magic-heavy lineups and relies on Rage timing more than on farm. His job is to out-sustain the enemy and kill their biggest hero.
Power Treads, Magic Wand and Bracer cover the lane. Armlet of Mordiggian is the common first core, followed by Desolator or Sange and Yasha. Skull Basher into Abyssal Blade, Assault Cuirass and Monkey King Bar finish the build. Radiance is a farming alternative, and Aghanim's Scepter lets Infest work on enemies.
Yes. Lifestealer is a simple carry: Feast heals you automatically, Rage is one button to survive, and Infest is an easy escape. New players should learn when to save Rage, which heroes to attack for the most healing and which enemies, such as Phantom Assassin or armor-heavy heroes, beat him in a straight fight.
Infest hides Lifestealer inside an ally or creep, where he is invulnerable and heals over time. Use it to ride an initiator into the enemy team and burst out next to the carry, or to escape by infesting a creep and walking it away. The burst damages nearby enemies, so wait for enemies to group before leaving the host.
