Why pick Razor?
Pick Razor against a right-click carry your team cannot handle, and when fights are long enough for the storm to matter.

Link the carry, stay close and let the storm do the rest.
Razor is a ranged Agility hero who steals the enemy carry's damage with Static Link and wins extended fights with Eye of the Storm.
Pick Razor against a right-click carry your team cannot handle, and when fights are long enough for the storm to matter.
Avoid Razor against spell-based lineups with heavy kiting, where Static Link steals little and he cannot stay close.
Do not link a support or a hero who walks away. Link the carry and move with them.

Our picks, based on how the spells work together.

Earth Spike and Hex hold the carry still so Razor's link drains the full duration.

Slithereen Crush and Corrosive Haze help Razor stay close and shred the linked target.

Shallow Grave keeps Razor alive in the middle of the enemy team while the storm works.

Magic Missile and Wave of Terror give Razor time to link and lower enemy armor further.

Frostbite holds a target for the link and Arcane Aura covers Razor's mana costs.

Magic burst and range let Lina hurt Razor without ever being linked for long.

Ball Lightning escapes the link instantly and Electric Vortex pulls Razor out of position.

Phase Shift and Illusory Orb break the link and Dream Coil holds Razor in place.

Windrun makes Razor's attacks miss and Shackleshot stops his chase.

Sniper attacks from far outside link range and slows Razor before he arrives.

Razor is a ranged Agility hero who steals the enemy carry's damage with Static Link and wins extended fights with Eye of the Storm.
Razor is a ranged Agility hero. Our recommended role is mid, with offlane as a common alternative.
Razor wins by staying close. Static Link drains attack damage from an enemy for as long as Razor keeps near them, Plasma Field damages and slows everyone around, and Eye of the Storm strikes nearby enemies and strips armor for a long time. Pick Razor against a right-click carry your team cannot otherwise handle. He needs movement speed and durability more than burst, because his damage grows the longer a fight lasts.
Use Plasma Field to farm and harass at the same time: the ring deals more damage at its edge, so cast it when the enemy stands at maximum range. Link the enemy mid when they come forward and walk with them, then attack with the stolen damage. Boots early matter more than on most heroes because the link breaks if you fall behind.
Link the enemy carry at the start of the fight and stay within range while attacking them. Activate Eye of the Storm so the strikes hit the enemies around you and reduce armor. Razor wants to be in the middle of the enemy team, so buy Black King Bar and move through the fight rather than standing still.
Bottle, Boots and Wraith Bands carry the lane. Phase Boots or Power Treads plus a Wind Lace keep the link alive, and Black King Bar is the usual first big item so the link cannot be interrupted. Eul's Scepter, Blink Dagger, Hurricane Pike and Satanic follow, with Refresher Orb in very long games.

Static Link drains damage every second while the target stays within its range; the stolen damage then lasts for a while after the link ends. Cast it early in a fight and stay close, even if it means walking past other enemies. Movement items are damage items for Razor.

The field expands and contracts, dealing more damage and slow the farther the enemy is from Razor when it hits. Cast it when enemies are at the edge of its radius, not on top of you, to get the full damage and slow twice.

Storm Surge gives attacks a chance to release lightning strikes on nearby enemies with a slow. It works with the stolen damage from Static Link, so a linked Razor who keeps attacking deals far more damage than the numbers suggest. Attack speed items make it trigger more often.
| Detail | What it means in your game |
|---|---|
| Plasma Field | Releases a ring of energy that expands and contracts, damaging and slowing enemies more at its edge. |
| Static Link | Links to an enemy and drains their attack damage over time while they stay in range. |
| Storm Surge | Passive. Attacks have a chance to release lightning strikes that damage and slow nearby enemies. |
| Eye of the Storm | Summons a storm that repeatedly strikes the nearest enemy, dealing damage and reducing armor. |
Razor is played mid or offlane. Mid gives him the levels and Bottle he needs to dominate the lane with Plasma Field and Static Link. In the offlane he is a durable front liner who shuts down the enemy carry. Both roles want him in the middle of fights with movement and Black King Bar.
Bottle, boots and Wraith Bands cover the lane, with Wind Lace or Phase Boots for the chase. Black King Bar is the standard first core, followed by Eul's Scepter of Divinity or Blink Dagger to reach targets. Hurricane Pike, Satanic, Assault Cuirass and Refresher Orb finish the build in long games.
Razor is a good hero for players learning mid. His spells are easy to cast and his main skill, staying close to the linked target, is simple to understand. New players should watch their movement speed, buy Black King Bar before luxury items and learn which enemy to link, usually the hero whose attacks hurt the most.
Eye of the Storm lasts a long time and strikes the nearest enemy repeatedly, lowering their armor with every hit. Activate it as a fight starts and stay among the enemies so the strikes keep landing. It also damages buildings, which makes Razor a strong tower pusher after a won fight.
