Power Treads are the most common boots for heroes who win with attacks. They add attack speed and let you choose which attribute the boots strengthen, which can save mana, add health or add damage depending on the moment. This guide explains the recipes, the switching trick and when other boots are better. Prices and recipe totals use the dated Valve snapshot shown below.

Power Treads can be built with Belt of Strength, Band of Elvenskin or Robe of the Magi. The final item is identical, so buy the attribute item that helps you most in lane: Strength for health in a hard lane, Agility for armor and last hits, Intelligence for mana.
Switching the attribute to Intelligence raises your maximum mana and the current mana with it. Switch before casting an expensive spell, then switch back to your main attribute for the fight. Many players bind the item to a key so the switch takes no time.
Health and mana regeneration from items and the fountain apply to a percentage of your maximum values in some cases, and extra Strength raises the health pool itself. Switch to Strength while using Bottle, Magic Wand or when standing at the fountain, then back when you leave.

For Agility heroes, the Agility setting adds attack damage, attack speed and a little armor at once. Keep it there during fights and while farming, and only switch for a specific reason such as a spell cast or a trip to the fountain.

Phase Boots add attack damage, armor and a speed burst that lets you walk through units; Power Treads add attack speed and a stat. Melee cores who chase and fight early often prefer Phase, while heroes who scale with attack speed take Treads.

Every switch to Intelligence before a spell saves a small amount of mana compared with casting on your main attribute. Over a full game that adds up to several extra spells. Practice the habit in unranked games until it is automatic.

| In the 2026-09-12 snapshot, Power Treads cost 1,400 gold: Boots of Speed (500 gold) + Gloves of Haste (450 gold) + one of Belt of Strength, Band of Elvenskin or Robe of the Magi (450 gold each). There is no recipe fee. The expandable panel above shows every variant. | |
| Valve's description says movement speed bonuses from multiple pairs of boots do not stack. Buying a second boots item gives no extra speed. | |
| The snapshot lists different movement speed values for melee and ranged heroes, with melee heroes receiving more. The attack speed and the attribute bonus are the same for both. |
The saved 2026-09-12 Valve snapshot lists 1,400 gold with no recipe fee, whichever attribute item you use. This is a dated reference, not a promise that a later patch has the same price.
Buy them on heroes who attack to deal damage: carries, most mid heroes and fighting offlaners. They are usually finished in the first few minutes after Boots of Speed, before the first major item.
Tread switching means changing the attribute bonus during the game: Intelligence before casting to gain mana, Strength while regenerating for a larger health pool, and your main attribute for fights and farming. It costs nothing and has no cooldown worth worrying about.
Neither is better in every case. Power Treads suit heroes who scale with attack speed and benefit from switching stats. Phase Boots suit melee heroes who need damage, armor and the speed burst to chase or escape early.
