Why pick Huskar?
Pick Huskar against magic-heavy lineups and when your team wants to fight early and end before the late game.

Burn the lane, jump the carry and get stronger with every point of health you lose.
Huskar is a Strength hero who pays health for damage, gets stronger the lower his health drops and dives in with Life Break.
Pick Huskar against magic-heavy lineups and when your team wants to fight early and end before the late game.
Avoid Huskar against Ancient Apparition, heal reduction, pure damage or percentage-based damage.
Do not spam spears at full health against a hero who can punish it. Your health is a resource, not a free cost.

Huskar is a Strength hero who pays health for damage, gets stronger the lower his health drops and dives in with Life Break.
Huskar is a ranged Strength hero. Our recommended role is mid, with safe-lane carry as an alternative.
Huskar fights with his health bar. Burning Spear costs health and burns enemies over time, Berserker's Blood gives attack speed, regeneration and magic resistance as his health falls, and Life Break jumps to a target and takes a share of both heroes' health. Pick Huskar when the enemy relies on magic damage or lacks a way to burst a low-health hero. He is weak against pure damage, percentage damage and heal reduction.
Stack Burning Spear on the enemy mid from level one; the burn adds up and forces them out of lane. Buy regen items instead of damage because your health is your resource. From level six, Life Break onto a half-health enemy usually kills them with spears and attacks.
Jump the enemy carry or the hero who deals the most damage with Life Break, then keep attacking and spearing. Berserker's Blood rewards staying at low health, so do not retreat the moment you take damage; retreat when the enemy has pure damage or heal reduction ready. Inner Fire disarms melee heroes around you.
Armlet of Mordiggian is the classic first core: it adds attack damage and strength and its health drain plays into Berserker's Blood. Power Treads and Magic Wand come first, then Black King Bar against control, Heaven's Halberd against carries and Satanic for a full heal. Aghanim's Scepter lets Life Break cover more distance.

Armlet's bonus strength adds health when it is switched on. Turning it on when you are about to die gives a burst of health, and turning it off and on again resets the gain. Practise the toggle so you can do it while Life Break is in the air.

Each Burning Spear adds a burn that stacks with the previous ones. In lane, hit the enemy several times in a row so the burn becomes a real threat. Autocast works for harassment, but turn it off when you need to last-hit without paying health.

Inner Fire pushes enemies away and disarms them for several seconds, at the cost of health. Use it when a melee carry such as Juggernaut or Phantom Assassin reaches you, or to interrupt a channel. Do not cast it at full health in lane unless the kill is certain.
| Detail | What it means in your game |
|---|---|
| Inner Fire | Costs health. Knocks back nearby enemies, damages them and disarms them for a few seconds. |
| Burning Spear | Costs health. Attacks apply a stacking burn that deals damage over time. |
| Berserker's Blood | Passive. Huskar gains attack speed, health regeneration and magic resistance as his health drops. |
| Life Break | Huskar leaps to an enemy, sacrificing part of his own health and removing a share of the target's health, then slows them. |
Huskar is usually a mid hero because the solo lane gives him levels for Life Break and Berserker's Blood and the spears win most matchups. He can also play safe-lane carry. In both roles he is a tempo hero who wants to fight early and take towers before pure damage and heal reduction catch up.
Power Treads and Magic Wand carry the lane, then Armlet of Mordiggian as the first core. Black King Bar handles enemy control, Heaven's Halberd disarms carries, and Satanic gives a full heal in long fights. Aghanim's Scepter and Shard, Sange and Yasha and Heart of Tarrasque are common later picks.
Huskar is easy to play but easy to counter. New players enjoy the simple spears and the aggressive jumps, but they must learn to read the enemy team: Ancient Apparition, Spirit Vessel or heavy pure damage make the hero much weaker. Pick him when the enemy draft is mostly magic damage and has few answers to a low-health hero.
Life Break is a gap closer and a nuke in one: Huskar jumps to the target, takes a share of his own health and removes a share of the target's, then slows them. Use it on the enemy whose death wins the fight, usually the carry, and follow with spears and attacks while Berserker's Blood makes you strong at low health.
